A .INTRODUCTION

In compliance with the Act Protecting Children and Families from Harmful Pesticides, Lasting Impressions on 5/11/2007 5:43:00 PM has prepared the following indoor IPM plan. By centralizing all of the information about this facility’s pest management practices the plan serves as a guide to direct this facility’s IPM coordinator,  Kelly Milligan , about pest control and pesticide use.

This plan describes the pest management practices for indoor areas of the Lasting Impressions and clearly states it’s pesticide use policies.

A copy of the plan has been filed with the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR), and at least one printed copy must be kept on site and made available to the public upon request.

    Objectives
The objectives of the integrated pest management program conducted at the Lasting Impressions are listed below.

  •
  • Reduce children’s exposure to pesticides and pesticide residues whenever possible.
  •
  • Manage pests that may occur on facilities to prevent interference with the learning environment of the students.
  •
  • Provide the safest playing or athletic surfaces possible.

In light of these objectives, the Lasting Impressions has selected the following as it’s IPM policy statement:

B.POLICY STATEMENT

. Lasting Impressions IPM Policy Lasting Impressions Childcare desires to prevent unnecessary exposure to children and employees to chemical pesticides and reduce the need to rely on chemical pesticides when managing pests. It is the policy of Lasting Impressions to only use chemical pesticides when pests have been identified and their presence verified. Selection of treatment option or corrective actions will give priority to non-chemical actions whenever possible to provide the desired control of pests, education of the staff, students, employees, and parents about the IPM will be included to achieve desired objectives. When it is determined that pesticides are needed, only those allowed by the Children''s and Families Protection Act will be used. Further, only certified and/or licensed individuals will be able to use pesticides. Our policy prohibits the use of any pesticide by unlicensed staff. It will be this school policy to make the appropriate notification and posting as well as to keep records of all pesticide used. A copy of the school IPM plan will be maintained in the Director''s office, posted in a central location, and copies made upon request.

  •
  • Communicate about IPM - Facilitate communication within the school about IPM practices.
  •
  • Assist in development of contract specifications.

D. COMMUNICATING IPM WITHIN THE FACILITY

    5. Description of Pest Problem Lasting Impressions Childcare has recently relocated to a new building. Only having occupied the building for a few months at this time no problems have yet to be observed. Problems observed at the previous location were bee''s, ants, and field mice. The presence of these pests occurred seasonally. If these pests are identified by the staff and are confirmed by a professional inspection by Griggs and Browne pest control specialists, they will be treated in the same manner as done at the previous location. Monthly inspections occur and a monthly inspection log is kept in the Director''s office.

Staff/Students communicate with their supervisors or teachers who then pass information onto the IPM coordinator.

E. EDUCATION AND TRAINING OF FACILITY OCCUPANTS & STAFF

  • 6. School IPM Flow and Training Kelly Milligan(owner) or Adrianna Williams(Director) meet once a month with Griggs and Browne specialists to cover monitoring reports. At year''s end a meeting is held to review pest activity throughout the year. Monthly inspections by Griggs and Browne will determine any pest issues. Griggs and Browne will identify the problem, document activity and treatment in central log. Pest''s observed by the staff of Lasting Impressions will be reported to Griggs and Browne for their recommendation for treatment.
