A .INTRODUCTION
In compliance with the Act Protecting Children and Families from Harmful Pesticides, The James Place Child Care Program on 9/24/2007 10:31:00 AM has prepared the following indoor IPM plan. By centralizing all of the information about this facility’s pest management practices the plan serves as a guide to direct this facility’s IPM coordinator, Deanna Kenney , about pest control and pesticide use. This plan describes the pest management practices for indoor areas of the The James Place Child Care Program and clearly states it’s pesticide use policies.
A copy of the plan has been filed with the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR), and at least one printed copy must be kept on site and made available to the public upon request.
Objectives
The objectives of the integrated pest management program conducted at the The James Place Child Care Program are listed below.
-
Reduce children’s exposure to pesticides and pesticide residues whenever possible.
-
Manage pests that may occur on facilities to prevent interference with the learning environment of the students.
-
Provide the safest playing or athletic surfaces possible.
In light of these objectives, the The James Place Child Care Program has selected the following as it’s IPM policy statement:
B.POLICY STATEMENT
This IPM plan was prepared to comply with the Act Protecting Children and Families from Harmful Pesticides. It is the policy of James Place Child Care Program Inc. to prevent unnecessary exposure to chemical pesticides when managing pests. When it is determined that pesticides are needed, only those allowed by the Children’s and Families Protection Act will be used. Chemical pesticides may be a part of the IPM plan and applied only by a certified and/or licensed individual. However, considerable effort will be put towards preventing pest problems by controlling conditions inside and outside the program, which may attract and support pests. It will be the responsibility of our program to notify parents when using pesticides as well as keep records of all pesticide use. Education of the IPM plan to staff, parents, children and church employees will be included.
C.IPM COMMITTEE
The tasks set before an IPM committee are to:-
Develop an IPM plan. The IPM plan is in essence, a document that describes the organization and implementation of IPM on school grounds.
-
Evaluate progress of the IPM program.
-
Communicate about IPM - Facilitate communication within the school about IPM practices.
-
Assist in development of contract specifications.
-
Provide notification to parents about pesticide use.
The INDOOR committee members selected for the The James Place Child Care Program are listed below:
1) Deanna Kenney (Indoor IPM Coordinator)
2) Ruth Kerr
3) Tara Clark
4) Will Hodge
5) Sherri Gould
D. COMMUNICATING IPM WITHIN THE FACILITY
The Pest Management Professional communicates with the IPM coordinator of the facility. The IPM coordinator then posts this information in a common viewing area dedicated to the subject of integrated pest management. In addition, the IPM coordinator also communicates information to the staff supervisors who then distribute the information to all the staff and occupants concerned.
Staff/Students communicate with their supervisors or teachers who then pass information onto the IPM coordinator.
E. EDUCATION AND TRAINING OF FACILITY OCCUPANTS & STAFF
- We will hold an annual training on the IPM plan for staff. A log will be kept in the office for staff to report any pest sightings. The log will consist of name of pest (if known), number seen, date, time, and location. The log will be monitored weekly by Deanna Kenney (Program Director).
- Training content will cover pest-reporting procedures who should be notified and where the log book will be located. The training will also cover preventative measures we can take to keep pest under control(i.e. washing down talbes and sweeping floors, putting food away and removing trash daily, etc).
- We will post a memo of the training where all staff can see as well as a notice placed in each staff mail pocket.
- Ruth Kerr(IPM Committee member)will conduct the meeting once a year. We will have an evaluation form completed by each trainee at the end of the training
- Children must sit at the snack and lunch tables. They are reminded to throw out any trash and reminded not to leave food in their cubbies. Parents are asked to check their children''s cubbies before they leave.
F. INDOOR MONITORING
The IPM committee will evaluate the plan quarterly. When pests are present, The James Place Child Care Program has chosen an INDOOR monitoring schedule that consists of daily inspections. When pests are absent the INDOOR monitoring schedule will consist of daily inspections. The following technique will be used to monitor for pests: Reports from facility personnel (pest reporting forms) would prompt the IPM coordinator to contact the facility’s Pest Management Professional who would then conduct a facility audit.
