Total Achievement Program Attleboro Site employs Griggs & Browne an on-site certified and/or licensed pesticide applicator (certification/license #: 15933) who may be called on to manage all or some of the necessary OUTDOOR pest problems that may arise.
In addition, this School Age Childcare Program also has a contract with
Jennifer Adams (Office Manager) of Griggs & Browne, (800) 244-1012. By signing the end of this outdoor IPM plan, the IPM coordinator, Jennifer Schwarz, of this School Age Childcare Program and the Pest Management Professionals described above acknowledge, and agree to the terms of this OUTDOOR integrated pest management plan.
A. INTRODUCTION
In compliance with the Act Protecting Children and Families from Harmful Pesticides the Total Achievement Program Attleboro Site on 11/27/2006 12:32:00 PM has prepared the following outdoor IPM plan about pest control and pesticide use. This plan describes the pest management practices for outdoor areas of Total Achievement Program Attleboro Site and clearly states it’s pesticide use policies.
A copy of the plan has been filed with the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR), and at least one printed copy must be kept on site and made available to the public upon request.
By centralizing all of the information about this facility’s pest management practices the plan serves as a guide to direct this facility’s IPM coordinator, Jennifer Schwarz Objectives
The objectives of the integrated pest management program conducted at the Total Achievement Program Attleboro Site are listed below.
| Reduce children’s exposure to pesticides and pesticide residues whenever possible. |
| Manage pests that may occur on facilities to prevent interference with the learning environment of the students. |
| Provide the safest playing or athletic surfaces possible. |
In light of these objectives, the Total Achievement Program Attleboro Site has selected the following as it’s IPM policy statement.
B.POLICY STATEMENT
The Total Achievement Program desires to prevent unnecessary exposure to children and employees to chemical pesticides and reduce the need to rely on chemical pesticides when managing pests, both indoors and outdoors. It is the policy of this program to only use chemical pesticides when pests have been identified and their presence verified. Selection of treatment option or corrective actions will give priority to non-chemical actions whenever possible to provide the desired control of pests. Education of staff, clients, employees, and parents about IPM will be included to achieve desired objectives. When it is determined that pesticides are needed, only those allowed by the Children’s and Families Protection Act will be used. Further, only certified and/or licensed individuals will be able to use pesticides. Our policy prohibits the use of any pesticide by unlicensed staff. It will be the policy of this program to make the appropriate notification and posting as well as keep records of all pesticide use. A copy of this Indoor IPM Plan will be maintained in the main office in the building and on file with the Facilities Manager. It is available upon request.
C. IPM COMMITTEE
The tasks set before an IPM committee are to: | Develop an IPM plan. The IPM plan is in essence, a document that describes the organization and implementation of IPM on school grounds. |
| Evaluate progress of the IPM program. |
| Communicate about IPM - Facilitate communication within the school about IPM practices. |
| Assist in development of contract specifications. |
| Provide notification to parents about pesticide use. |
The OUTDOOR committee members selected for the Total Achievement Program Attleboro Site are listed below:
1) Jennifer Schwarz (Outdoor IPM Coordinator)
2) Michael Healey
3) Marie Palumbo-Hayes
4) Jennifer Schwarz
5) Jessica Ducey
D. COMMUNICATING IPM WITHIN THE FACILITY
Pest Management Personnel to Building Staff:
Diane Gordon, former Facilities Manager, spoke directly with Griggs and Browne. Staff will be instructed on how to log pest complaints and be given a brief overview on pest identification and the conditions that promote the pests. Pamphlets and fact sheets will be made available at the time of training and or posted on bulletin boards in specific areas such as the conference and multipurpose rooms. This information will focus on pest reduction strategies connecting people behavior such as over watering plants, eating at desks to pest problems. More specific training will be held annually and separately for Maintenance Coordinator.
A pest log binder will be kept in the main office of the building and pest activity sheets distributed to all staff. The sheet will indicate identification of pest (if known), number seen, date, time, and location. The staff will be responsible for notifying Jennifer Schwarz, IPM Coordinator, of pests seen. Ms. Schwarz will then log complaints from staff. Griggs and Browne will respond to the logged complaints. If any sanitation or structural or operation changes are noted, it will be written in the log along with any remedial recommendation(s). Specific service reports will also be placed in the log binder that documents particular actions taken by Griggs and Browne.
E. EDUCATION AND TRAINING OF FACILITY OCCUPANTS & STAFF
Training content will cover the procedure of how and when to log pests seen and what steps follow (i.e. IPM coordinator to contact Pest Management Professional, etc.) A brief overview on pest identification and the conditions that promote pests will be given. Pamphlets and fact sheets will be made available at the time of training or posted on bulletin boards in specific areas, such as the conference and multipurpose room. This information will focus on pest reduction strategies connecting people behavior such as proper disposal of trash, grounds maintenance, etc.
F. OUTDOOR MONITORING
The IPM plan will follow a Quarterly evaluation schedule. When pests are present, Total Achievement Program Attleboro Site has chosen an OUTDOOR monitoring schedule that consists of Weekly inspections. When pests are absent the OUTDOOR monitoring schedule will consist of Weekly inspections. The following technique will be used to monitor for pests: Reports from facility staff and students (pest reporting forms) would prompt the IPM coordinator to contact the facility’s Pest Management Professional who would then conduct a facility audit.
G. COURSE OF ACTION TAKEN FOR OUTDOOR PESTS
Outdoor property includes the turf, landscaping, and the outdoor grounds such as building exterior, playground equipment, etc.. Total Achievement Program Attleboro Site has prepared maps of the outdoor facility and identified the following priority areas for maintenance:
OutdoorGrounds
The outdoor sitting area and the dumpster.
The following pests have historically and/or currently been a problem at Total Achievement Program Attleboro Site:
| TURF PESTS | | LANDSCAPING AND PLANT PESTS | | OUTDOOR GROUNDS PESTS |

OUTDOOR MANAGEMENT PLAN
The following areas are priority areas for maintenance: The outdoor sitting area and the dumpster.
Cultural Practices
OUTDOOR GROUNDS GENERAL MANAGEMENT PRACTICES
Waste Disposal (trash containers and dumpsters):
The dumpster is located approximately 30 feet from the building and emptied weekly. The staff make sure to close all trash bags and refuse appropriately before placing in the dumpster and then close the door to the dumpster to prevent rodents/other animals from accessing shelter.
Light Management:
An outdoor flood light is mounted by the door and only turned on when staff leave the premises. The light is on a timer and turns off automatically after 30 minutes.
Excess Water Prevention:
There is no standing water on or around the building. There are no ditches where excess rain water could accummulate.
Noxious Weed Management:
Large shrubs and plants are not planted on site. Two small trees are on the grounds and are checked regularly for noxious weed growth.
Playgrounds (if applicable):
N/A
Nuisance weeds in pavement:
The landscapers report any excessive weeds and maintain the paved areas so that cracks do not become problematic.
Storage Sheds (If applicable):
Because the program contracts out for lawn and shrub care, equipment is not stored on the premises. A storage shed is used to house extra program supplies. The shed is montitored regulary and maintained. Those who montior the shed know to inform the Pest Management Coordinator when pests are seen. No pests have been reported seen in this area.

Describe the monitoring technique you used for the pests above.
The staff monitor during the warm weather months for both ants and stinging insects. Any swarms of insects are noted on the log form and reported to the pest managment coordinator. Any mounds of sand and infestation of ants outdoors are also noted on the log form and reported to the coordinator.
Provide information on how you identified the species of the pests above.
No swarms or nests of stinging insects have been noted by staff for several seasons. Staff monitor the grounds regularly during the warm weather months and identify problem pests when necessary by either looking it up or asking Griggs and Browne.
Provide details on the non-chemical control measures you have taken to manage the pests above.
The staff inspects the building regularly during the warm weather months. The dumpster is maintained and emptied frequently. The lawn and surrounding low-growth shrubbery is maintained frequently.
If you use insecticides, describe your rationale for using them for the pests above.
Griggs and Browne only uses the insecticides when a pest issue becomes problematic. They also take measures to prevent any pest control issues. Many of the insecticides listed below have not yet bee used but are included on the list if any issues should arise that their use is required.
