Recent News
- NOW HIRING: Forest Pest Outreach Coordinator job posted, apps due Friday, June 4th. Help protect Massachusetts from the Asian longhorned beetle!
- Whitespotted sawyers have emerged from the trees! Learn the difference between this native species and the Asian longhorned beetle!
- Beekeepers remain concerned about the potential impact of pesticide being used to treat ALB-infested trees, federal and state researchers have a study underway (NECN).
- A Northeastern University student is working on a research project to develop a radar device to detect Asian longhorned beetles while they're still inside the trees.
- Stay updated on when and where tree treatments are happening in Greater Worcester with these maps from the ALB Cooperative Eradication Program:

- The Emerald ash borer, an invasive pest of ash trees, was discovered in Iowa this May. It has also spread to Bedford County PA, less than 30mi from the Maryland border.
Upcoming Events and Volunteer Opportunities:
- Enjoy a free talk about ALB as part of Pittsfield's Bioblitz in the Berkshires, this Saturday, June 5th.
- The Worcester Tree Initiative is sponsoring their last free tree giveaway of this spring on Saturday, June 5th at Worcester State College, from 10am-12pm.
- The ALB documentary "Lurking in the Trees" will be airing in the following areas:
- Connecticut: Hartford and New Haven, June 5, 6, 20, 27
- Vermont: Burlington, June 6, 19, 20, 27
- Maine: Portland, June 6, 19
- The Worcester Tree Initiative will plant a (non-host) tree in the ALB quarantine zone for every $50 donation received.

- The Worcester Tree Initiative sponsored a free tree giveaway on 5/27.
- ALB training sessions were held in Wells, Maine on 5/25 and Rockland, ME on 5/26.
